While the Xbox One was released on November 22 , Phil Harrison (Vice-President of Microsoft) is entrusted with our British colleagues of Official Xbox Magazine to discuss an interesting fact: the new American console could have come ... without floppy disks !
The Redmond had this incredible idea in mind until mid-2013, and more specifically to the E3 where it was cold shower with negative public reaction vis-à- vis the vision of American society ( sharing games, mandatory connection ... ), then with the turnaround that we could live then . Problems concerning the size of games and bandwidth also weighed in the balance.
Here is what Phil Harrison says our colleagues :
Obviously, after the announcement ( Xbox One) at E3, there were returns on what people want to see change . There was a real debate about whether we should have an optical drive in the Xbox or if we could go out without a disc drive console, but when you start looking at the bandwidth and the size game , it creates problems .
So we decided - I think it was the right decision - to incorporate a Blu- Ray player and offer people a way to install a lot of content means . On these original ideas, you have seen many of us focus on the digital ecosystem that you can see on other devices - we think and build around it .
The transition to all paperless is not for now. Would you buy a Xbox One without Blu -ray player, if Microsoft had done this ( dangerous ) bet?
